Focus, with Mind-Body-Spirit

Why Mind Body Spirit? Coaching can focus on career, on goals, on life changes, and challenges, so why spend coaching time thinking about health, or how one’s spirit is holding up? Let’s just focus!

Everything is shaken… and without a doubt there are people rocked to their core by this pandemic.  I’ll name my privilege now, that I am busy working, content that my family is safe thus far, and that I have choices in managing reduced income, frayed nerves, and acting from my values.

With no familiar territory, no idea of how long the lockdown will last, or what comes next, we are shaken.   Those of us seeing some hope, or in a sense of leadership, whether reassuring our families or teams, and those of us drawn to envision the path forward…  how do we put our feet down on these shifting sands?  How do we find balance, or at least shimmy and shift with a bit more groove?

And your mind says:  Are you thinking, ‘if I create a schedule and some simple goals, or  make a to-do list…’  Your mind can look backward to times of confidence.  It can look ahead to the future, and it can be present now with what is here.  My mind shifts the most in these times, wishing I had information and a timeline. What’s working most is being clear about my vision - to strengthen those around me, to feel connected, and stick to their values, so the world we rebuild is the one we want and need. That vision helps prioritize my to-do list, and reminds me to go easy on myself and others.

Now notice it in your body: Did you stretch this morning, or just stretch out on the couch?  Are you hungry in your heart, your mind or your belly?  Only one of those requires a trip to the fridge.   Do you keep in touch with your vibrant sense of self that can drive that first sluggish minute of exercise? Fresh air, focused breath, movement, and the fuel you choose…. Finding your personal sense of health and purpose is reassuring and gives energy for riding out the waves. Even the first steps!

And now, let your spirit speak:  Beyond your busy mind, there is a hope or a fear.  When the body settles, there is a sense of what matters, and here is where you find your driving force - your values, confidence and rejuvenated hope. It might be a prayer.  When the spirit is given permission to speak, you can trust that your resulting actions will be longer lasting and self-sustaining.  For courage, for leadership, for reassuring those around you and yourself, a strong spirit is the strongest source.

Mind-body-spirit:  even saying the phrase has movement to it, positive energy, a direction that resonates with you.  So find your courage, get grounded, lead with confidence.  Focused coaching conversations help to zero in and get real about what balances you best: Mind, Body and Spirit.
